Local IT Support Provider Urging Local Businesses to Be Prepared for Potential Impacts on Business Continuity

IT SUPPORTThe first week of 2017 is set to close out with some nasty weather. The Raleigh/Durham area is expected to receive between 3 to 7 inches of snow, as well as freezing rain this Saturday. To make matters worse, temperatures aren’t supposed to reach above freezing until Monday at the earliest.

This winter storm has the potential to cause power outages as a result of ice build-up, and possibly even flooding from burst pipes thanks to the frigid temperatures. It would be wise to take some time before you head home for the weekend to ensure your business is ready to weather the storm.

This wintery disruption has the potential to create serious problems for businesses. When nasty weather strikes, there is always a possibility of physical damage to office space caused by icy conditions and below freezing temperatures. But even if a business workspace remains intact, service outages can damage hardware, or leave team members without access to the critical resources they rely on to complete tasks and look after clients.

Here is a quick checklist to help you make sure you haven’t missed anything:

  • Confirm that your data backups have been completed
  • Have your Business Continuity plan on hand and ready to be activated
  • Test any battery backups
  • Power down and/or unplug non-essential hardware in case of power surges
  • Ensure any hardware that will be left running is using a surge protector
  • Move power bars or other electronics off of the floor where possible in case of flooding
